EDWARDIAN HOME RENOVATION | KNIGHTON

The Brief:

My client for this project is a property developer who has purchased this property as a family home for himself and his parents.

The property is a 5 bed detached Edwardian with stunning original features. The refurbishment will comprise extensive repairs to the exterior, a new and sympathetic extension to the rear and an attic conversion.

Internally, the property will be extensively but sympathetically modernised. The interiors will be designed to be in keeping with the age and grandeur of the property but with the technology of a smart, modern property.

As part of the core team, alongside the client, architects, project manager and landscape designer, this project has been in progress for nearly a year. It broke ground in spring this year and is due for completion by Christmas.

Schemes:

An overarching design thread has been established which will permeate through the whole space: simple but architecturally appropriate plasterwork, dark engineered-wood herringbone flooring and un-laquered antique brass hardware and sockets. Colour palettes will be a neutral base with accent colours which compliment the tones featured in the numerous stained-glass windows.

The older spaces in the house will be sympathetically restored and furniture and furnishings will be appropriate to the high ceilinged grandeur of the house. In the newer extension spaces a more modern aesthetic will be adopted while retaining 'nods' to the styles in the main house.
